What plumbing work do you need?
What homeowners miss — and what we check first
Plumbing mistakes have a habit of hiding until the tiles are up and the fittings are bought. These are the five things we confirm on site before any pipework starts — each one has saved a client from an expensive re-do.
Buying a toilet bowl before measuring the WC set-out
The distance from the wall to the waste outlet varies from project to project — there is no single standard, and it also matters whether your bowl discharges through the floor (S-trap) or through the wall (P-trap). A bowl bought on promotion that does not match your set-out either will not fit or needs costly adapting. Measure first, buy second; we will give you the exact figures during the site visit.
Deciding hot and cold water points after the walls are closed
Every basin, shower and sink needs a decision: cold only, or hot and cold? Once the piping is concealed and the tiles are on, adding a hot water point means hacking back into a finished wall. Walk the flat with us before piping starts and settle where you actually want hot water — it takes ten minutes and closes the door on the most common plumbing regret.
Expecting an instant heater to drive a rain shower
Instant water heaters often cannot support a rain shower properly — the flow and pressure a large shower head needs is more than most instant units deliver, and the result is a disappointing drizzle. If a rain shower is part of the plan, the heater choice has to match it. We will tell you plainly whether the combination you want will actually work.
Undersizing the storage heater
A storage heater holds a fixed amount of hot water, so its size has to match how you bathe. A bathtub, or several people showering back to back, needs a larger tank than a single quick shower. Choosing the size by price alone is how people end up with cold baths — tell us how the bathroom will really be used and we will size it to that.
Planning a gas heater in the yard without its water point
A gas water heater installed in the service yard needs a water point run out to it — something that has to be planned into the piping works, not discovered afterwards. If a gas heater is your preference, say so at the start and we will route the supply as part of the job.
Not sure which of these applies to your flat?
